Tortuguero travel

If you are planning a trip to Tortuguero our B&B its greatly located to leave out of San Jose we are situated just outside of the city on the highway that goes to the Caribbean on route 32. Specially if your plane arrives in the afternoon or at night once at La Boruca you don’t have to mess with the nasty San Jose traffic you just wake up have a nice breakfast in a beautiful location and then head out to a great destination without any hassles.
Tortuguero is what I like to call the Costarican Amazon as you may be aware there is no actual way to get there by car you must take the boat and the most convenient location is La Pavona about 45 minutes on a dirt and rock road from Cariari de Guapiles. Most of the way is quite simple and the road is very scenic specially when you are crossing the Braulio Carrillo national park it gets a bit confusing once you pass Cariari but if you prepare with maps and instructions you should be ok. Once at La Pavona there is a quite safe and efficient parking facility $10 per day will keep your rental car safe and guarded until you return.

The boat leaves 3 times a day 7:30am, 1:30pm and 4:30pm, the boat ride takes from 45 minutes to an hour this journey in particular is quite nice it seems more like tour than just a transport to Tortuguero, the going rate is approximately $3 per person and the boat is quite safe and comfortable. The best time to visit Tortuguero is from March to October this is when the turtles come to lay their eggs and this gives you an extra incentive to visit this ecological paradise.

You can also visit Tortuguero by bus its quite simple the buses that leave San Jose are in coordination with the 1:30 pm and the 4:30 pm boats so you can connect if you stay at La Boruca we will arrange transportation to the bus station and help you with all necessary information to get to Tortuguero.
